Goa

Starring: : Jai, Vaibhav, Aravind, Premji, Sneha, Sampath, Piyaa and others. Music: Yuvan Sankar Raja. Production: Orcher Studios, Warner Bros and directed by Venkat Prabhu;
Rating: ** - Yenna Koduma sir ithu (Premji style)

Venkat Prabhu had proved with earlier two movies that one doesnt need a leading hero or heroine to give a hit movie and has tried to do the same with this movie Goa. Goa according to Venkat Prabhu - "No Bloodsheds..No Violence! Welcome to the journey of fun-n-frolic'. It was also rumoured that it is a remake of Hollywood hit 'American Pie' but it isnt. It has lot of enjoyable moments

Saamikannu (Premji), Vinayagam (Jai) and Ramraj ( Vaibhav ) three friends who have never seen the world beyond their small village near Theni. They loot the local temple of its jewellery and set off initially to Madurai where they encounter a long lost friend who got married to a foreigner he met in Goa and is leaving for London!. Inspired by this idea of marrying a foreigner the 3 friends leave for Goa.

In Goa, a land of beaches and ladies in bikinis they soon get in touch with Jack (Aravind Akash) and Danny (Sampath) two gays who run a resort in Goa. Saamikannu falls for a white girl (Melaine Marie), Vijay falls for a night club singer Roshini (Pyaa) and Ram falls for Suhasini (Sneha) a rich fashion oriented girl who runs a casino.

Suhasini's character has the twist and surprise in the movie and when the true color is revealed, what happens next and whether the trio were able to bring back home their girls is rest of the story. This movie also includes a cameo role by Prasanna, Simbhu and Nayantara which is one of the best scenes in the movie.

Music by Yuvan Sankar Raja and the songs are just ok, not to be any chart busters. All songs are picturized well. The comedy in this movie just makes you chuckle and with a poor script and story line, Venkat Prabhu has failed to produce like his earlier smartly packaged Chennai 28 or Saroja. One thing has to be commended is the bold effort taken by the film crew and director in showing Jack and Danny, the resort owners as a gay couple. Even though there were some Tamil movies that touched upon this subject, Venkat took the liberty to explore more on this subject.

Premji gets the major chunk of the scenes and weight in this movie and he has done his role perfectly. Sneha has done, for the first time, a sort of dark role, but fitted well into the role. Jai and Vaibhav are ok. If Soundharya Rajnikanth, who produced this movie, wants to be successful producer, then she must start listening to scripts carefully and decide based on scripts. Overall, Venkat Prabhu's Goa, a supposed to be a holiday experience is not a very pleasant experience.
