When Shankar announced that he is going to remake 3Idiots after he gave the mega budget Endhiran, folks were wondering
if there is some hidden message in that announcement. Adding to the surprise was when Vijay was announced as the lead
character in the movie. It is not the usual Vijay movie and it is a really a risky venture for both Shankar and Vijay to
tread this new path. But Nanban has come out very well and kudos to Shankar for not spoiling the original script and
Vijay has also done his role very well, proving that he can do other characters too and not just a mass hero.
Pari (Vijay), Joins the engineering college as a first year student and with his funny way of handling the ragging by
seniors befriends Senthil (Jeeva) and Venkat (Srikanth). Soon they become thick friends and all the pranks these trio
do in college are funny and entertaining to watch. Pari who doesnt take anything seriously is hated by the college
princpal Virumandi Santhanam in short called as Virus.

Princpal Virus who wants everyone to be displined and stay in order doesnt like Pari's easy go nature and his "all is Well"
attitude. Meanwhile there they meet Srivatsan(Sathyan) who is nicknamed as Silencer, who appears to be a bookworm and always
tries to degrade the three friends. Then the family background of Senthil and Venkat are revealed both in a senti and funny
manner. Venkat who had a passion for photography is forced to study Engineering just to make his family happy.
Pari comes across principal Virus's daugther Riya (Illeana) and falls for her. Pari helps both Senthil and Venkat
study well and pass the exams. Not only Pari comes out in flying colors in studies, he also wins everyone's heart
by heroics. The movie has its twist when Pari disappears after the exams. What happens next is the rest of the story.
Vijay to do such a role needs amazing guts. A mass hero acting in a role that has no fights, no catchy self praise songs. But
he hasnt really fitted in fully except that he is slim and fits the role of a college student. Jiiva and Srikanth did their role
well and so is Illeana and Sathyaraj. Harris Jeyaraj's music seems to be a let down again. None of the songs are catchy. Shankar's
direction and Vijay's presence with good supporting cast makes this movie worth watching once.
